Semester & Academic Year Programs
Students planning to study abroad for a semester (fall or spring) or an academic year must select a program from the approved programs list. Programs led by Davidson faculty are at the top of the list, but the College offers many other options working with partner organizations in countries around the world. The options reflect many different locations, course offerings, GPA requirements, and cost factors. Meeting with an Education Abroad Adviser will help students determine the type of program that would work well for their academic, professional, and personal goals and will provide them relevant deadlines, the credit transfer process, and payment / financial aid guidelines.
Davidson Semester Programs
Davidson in China: Historically based in Shanghai, this program’s location may change based on the faculty leader’s focus in that particular year. Students can choose from content courses in contemporary Chinese studies taught by Davidson and Chinese university faculty. Language instruction is provided by university-based, professionally-trained, teachers of Chinese as a foreign language.
Davidson in France: This program is based in Paris for the duration of the semester in conjunction with IES Abroad. While French language study and Davidson’s faculty-taught course are central components of this program, students will find many courses of interest across disciplines that are taught in English or French at affiliated universities and at the IES center.
Davidson in Madrid: Located in the heart of Spain, Madrid is the nation’s capital and the third largest city in the European Union. Students enroll in four courses, including a course taught by the Davidson Resident Faculty Director and one Spanish language course. Additional course offerings include those taught by local faculty at IES Abroad’s Madrid Center as well as a wide array of direct-enrollment courses available at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (taught in Spanish) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (STEM courses in English), both ranked as top universities in Spain.
Davidson in Peru: Based in the city of Arequipa, students spend approximately 14 weeks taking courses while living with Peruvian families. Classes are held at the Universidad Católica San Pablo, a local private university where students also may participate in extracurricular activities at the Arequipa Centro de Integración. The 14 weeks based in Arequipa include local excursions, opportunities to volunteer or intern, and various excursions throughout the country.
Partner Programs
Many additional options are listed in the Approved Programs List. Students can browse the full list or narrow options by region or country. If applying to a partner program, students will need to complete an application through the Davidson portal and the partner website, which is linked from the Davidson application under "Homepage" (near the top of the page).
